What is Maca?

(Lepidium meyeni), also known as Maca, is an annual plant that produces a radish-like root that is indigenous to the mountainous and rugged terrain of the Peruvian highlands, and has been utilized by Andean cultures as a source of nourishment, energy, and healing for over two millenniums.

This harvested root of Maca was often used by Inca Warriors prior to battles or exploration because of the stamina, energy, and other health benefits the root provided.

Why is Triple Maca better than regular Maca?

Triple Maca means all 3 colored roots are in 1 package or capsule. This is significantly important since each color of the root is associated with specific health benefits, so having all 3 colors of the root provides a more complete set of benefits to your body. Most companies only offer the yellow or gold Maca because it is the cheapest and most abundant, but the benefits are not complete. That is why Incaliving offers all three color of the roots to you.

What is gelatinized Maca?

Gelatinized is an ancient Inca method of “lightly cooking” the Maca root by pressure for 2 seconds in order to rid the root of impurities, while also preserving all its nutritional value. The gelatinized process also allows the Maca to be digested 99.9% more efficiently than other supplements.

What is the difference between raw and gelatinized maca?

Gelatinized Maca is a process of removing toxins and starches from the maca, allowing it to be more digestible while maximizing the potential health benefits. The process has been a time-honored part of cultivating maca for generations in Peru, and has been researched as a vital process.

Sacha Inchi

What is Sacha Inchi, and why is it better than fish, krill, or other sources of omegas?

(Plukenetia volubilis linneo), also known as Sacha Inchi, is an indigenous plant to the Peruvian Amazon Forest. It has been cultivated along the eastern slopes of the lower Andes for more than 3,000 years, and has been depicted on Inca tomb carvings. It was not only used by The Incas for its great nutritional value but also its medicinal healing properties.

Unlike fish, cod liver or krill oil, Sacha Inchi is 100% plant based, cold-pressed extra virgin and yields the ideal balance of all omegas (3, 6 and 9). It also provides a rich content of the omega 3 fatty acids (6,700mg) per serving. It is 96% digestible and contains no cholesterol; in fact, it has been shown to help fight cholesterol among many other diseases. Sacha Inchi oil also contains a high level of antioxidants vitamin A & E which allows the oil to maintain its freshness and not require refrigeration after opening it.

Why isn’t Incaliving’s Sacha Inchi protein powder gelatinized?

The term gelatinization is utilized for foods cooked so as to rid it of starches; due to the fact that sacha inchi protein powder has no starches, gelatinization is not the process. All of our sacha inchi powders are derived from cooked sacha inchi seeds and based on ancient Inca methods.

Do I get the same health benefits from sacha inchi seeds, oil and flour?

If always stored in a cool dry place, sacha inchi has a shelf life of around two years if unsealed; however, after opening, it should be consumed within a year.

If I take sacha Inchi everyday, how long before I would need to reorder sacha inchi again?

The oil will last approximately 2-3 weeks if taking the daily recommended dosage, while the flour provides about 17 servings and the seeds 3 servings per container.

What type of diets do sacha inchi work with (vegan, paleo, gluten free, etc.)?

Nearly all diets have been shown to work with sacha inchi products…even the Shangri La diet, which focuses on consuming a high content of good fats such as the omegas twice a day.

Why are plant based omegas better than fish based?

Fish produce omegas due to their diet of plants or other small marine life (which also consume plants); thus, fish are actually a secondary source of omegas. Plants are a primary source of omegas and are better for your body.

Curcumin is the compound contained in turmeric root. Many people often take curcumin as a supplement since it is more potent than the turmeric used for cooking.

What is the difference between cacao, cocoa and chocolate?

Cacao are beans that have not been roasted and preserve all its nutritional value while cacao and chocolate is a processed byproduct of the beans, which are normally roasted and have sugar added.

If I take every day, how long before I would need to order cacao again?

If taking 10g of cacao a day (about two tablespoons), you can expect to reorder once a month.

What type of diets will cacao work with (vegan, paleo, gluten free, etc.)?

Cacao is paleo friendly, gluten free, vegan as well as keto friendly for its low amount of carbs and good fats. It’s great for the Mediterranean diet, dash diet as well as many others. You should always consult your doctor prior to starting any diet.

Are there any medical conditions that prevent me from taking cacao?

None that are known, but if you have a specific condition please consult with your physician first.

Do I need to be worried about the caffeine in cacao?

It will depend on caffeine sensitivity. However, with cacao powder there is roughly 30mg of caffeine per 15g (2.5Tbsp.) and cacao nibs contain 41 mg of caffeine per 30g (3 Tbsp), while compared to a cup of coffee, which contains between 50-150mg of caffeine.

What will the cacao taste like?

Cacao has a chocolate-like aroma but without any of the sugar.
